A whisky with a minimum age of 18 years combines complexity and cask influence with the perfect amount of youthful vigour. Over this length of time, the cask will have imparted plenty of depth and character but will still let the classic Speyside light and sweet flavours breathe and develop.
The Grangestone line of scotch is an independent label of different single malts and blends selected for the line. The Grangestone 18yr single malt expression comes from an undisclosed Highlands distillery, implying some of the peat smoke and temperamental nature of those spirits.
It was cheap ($60). When I got home, popped open Jim Murray's 2013 edition and Grangestone was nowhere to be found. 2019-11-05 Grangestone Highland Single Malt feels very young. It is so unmatured that I even started to question whether it’s a blend with big portion of grain whisky.
